FAQs

The journey to health and wellness can be intimidating and overwhelming but we are here to guide you through every step. In order to know which of our programs is best suited for you to reach your goals safely and efficiently we must first get to know you and see how you move. All prospective clients are asked to complete a 30 minute consultation and musculoskeletal screening prior to beginning any program at Athena. The information gathered through the screening and consultation will help our staff in determining which of our programs are best suited for you to safely and efficiently reach your goals.

Don’t be nervous, be excited! We’re here to help and look forward to joining you throughout your journey.

Consultations are only offered to first time visitors over the age of 18 with a valid ID or if a minor, must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The musculoskeletal screening consists of several movement screenings including posture, ranges of motion testing for the shoulder and cervical spine, thoracic rotation, pelvic stabilization, knee extension and flexion, hamstring flexibility, and balance.

The information gathered in this screening will best help in determining the most efficient and safest plan for you to reach your goals. Often pain is presented in one area of the body but in looking at the movement patterns in their entirety we can correct several movement patterns at once. A copy of the results from the screening will be provided to you within two days following the consultation appointment.

Athena Mobility & Strength provides a spectrum of integrative health and rehabilitation services as well as functional training programs. The information gathered from the consultation and screening allows our staff to provide the best recommendation on which program track is best suited for you to safely reach your goals.

MEDICAL EXERCISE & POST REHABILITATION TRACK

Our Medical Exercise and Post Rehabilitation programs begin with a Comprehensive Movement Assessment to lead clients from medical treatment toward long term health and fitness.

In looking at the bigger picture of movement this program will allow our staff to address a movement pattern that could alter several impairments at once which ultimately will lead to better functional movement as a whole with less compensation and pain. We assess with a thorough health and medical history along with specific isolated measurements such as posture, joint mechanics, and linear measurements of height and weight. We will also assess the functional movement patterns as a whole such as gait cycle (walking), sitting, standing, balance, etc.

A post assessment documentation of the results will be provided to you and sent directly to your medical professional. Recommendation on a plan will be discussed to determine the safest and most efficient way to reach your goals.

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT TRACK

Recommendations toward classes, appointments, or a combination of both will be discussed after the consultation and screening and will be based upon the goals of the client and screening results.

Absolutely. Your information is kept strictly confidential within in a secure documentation system. Our staff provides only necessary information to your health care professionals in an effort to collaborate on your behalf to ensure the best plan to get you back to better movement health.

A Medical Exercise Specialist is a medical fitness professional who not only works with the typical client looking to improve their health and fitness level; but he or she also has knowledge and skills to work with clients with a wide range of medical conditions.

Medical Exercise Management

The Medical Exercise Specialist manages the client’s condition through exercise. Understands related anatomy and pathology and how exercise impacts the condition and how they can manage the clients condition through exercise. We can work with the source of the injury or dysfunctional movement to retrain the faulty movement pattern, restore overall muscle movement balance, and prevent re-injury.

We do not diagnose or treat any medical conditions. We manage medical conditions and associated muscular imbalances with exercise.

We specialize in a number of common orthopedic conditions including osteoarthritis, joint pain/injury, and back, hip, shoulder, and neck pain.

You do not need a referral, however often you can submit the appointments rendered through your insurance company or write it off as a medical expense for reimbursement with the written referral from a licensed physician.

We do believe that communication with your healthcare professionals are valuable and important. Our assessments and monthly reassessments will be sent to your team to collaborate and provide you with the best outcomes for success.

At this point the healthcare system does not reimburse for Medical Exercise or Post Rehabilitation programs. We do have clients that have used their FSA or HSA for our services or have submitted their records of appointments to their insurance companies for direct reimbursement. This would depend upon your individual plan.

Payment for Athena services are due at or before your scheduled appointment. A active credit card or checking account is maintained on file in our secure Mindbody software system.
